Bob Swab, President of
Kernersville Little League, called the meeting to order at 8:20 PM.
There were twelve regular members in attendance.
The minutes of the
April 1st meeting were read by Gale Starbuck.
A motion was made by Chuck Haslebacher to approve the minutes
as read. The motion was
seconded by Cindy Clark; motion approved.
A motion was made by
Cindy Clark to approve the minutes of the April 28th special board
meeting; after clarifications were made.
The motion was seconded by Gary Cobbler; motion carried.
The Treasurer’s
report was given by Doug Massey; presently the league has $52,886.00
in its accounts; of this amount $14,621.00 is designated to the
parking lot fund. The
pizza sales brought in $8,000.00, and there was a 30% participation
rate. There is still
$2,600.00 that needs to be collected from sponsors.
On Saturday, May 11th
at 9:00 AM there will be a special board meeting in regards to an
incident with a Senior League manager threatening a member of the
league.
David Warren,
President of the Kernersville Jaycees gave an overview of plans for
the “Honor the Heroes” day which will be held at the Swaim Complex
on Saturday, May 18th at 1:30 PM.
The VFW will donate a new flag to the league and local police,
fire, veterans, and rescue personnel will be honored.
The Jaycees will also sell pizza after the program.
A motion was made by
Cindy Clark to release Joshua Isley from Paine Webber in the Senior
Baseball program. The
release request was for medical reasons.
Jonathan Head seconded the motion; motion carried.
Chuck Haslebacher made
a motion to approve the following player releases and replacements in
the Minor and Major Baseball program:
- Skyler Snow released from
Vestal due to a broken arm; is replaced by Perry McKinney from Holiday
Inn
- Zack Boyles added to
Holiday Inn as McKinney replacement
- Stephan Studevant, a late
sign up added to vacancy on Lions Club
- Will Swisher released from
TRS for personal reasons
- Josh Nichols brought up
from Holiday Inn
- Daniel Kearns late sign up
for Minors
- Joshua Phipps released
from TRS due to a broken leg
- Brian Moore moved up from
Kiwanis
- Cody Swaim late sign up to
Kiwanis
The motion was seconded by
Cindy Clark; motion approved.
Jonathan Head made a motion
to name the following persons as coaches of record in the Major
Softball division:

The motion was seconded by
Cindy Clark; motion approved.
Doug Massey made a motion to
name Phil Swisher as a coach for Stock Components. The motion was seconded by Sondra Southard; motion carried.
Bob clarified that the
league will field two 9 & 10 year old All Star Teams.
The manager who wins the regular season in the Major baseball
division has the option of coaching the 9 & 10 majors or the 11
& 12 year old majors. The
manager with the team finishing in second place takes the other team.
The manager who finishes in first place in the Minor league
baseball program will manage the second 9 & 10 year old team.
Rick Cremen will run the 9 & 10 year old All Star tryouts
on Sunday, June 2nd. The managers will vote on six players and the coaches of the
team will pick six players.
All eligible twelve year
olds’names will be on the ballot for the 11 & 12 year old All
Stars. The major league
players will vote six players on and the coaches will pick the
remaining six players.
Mike Robbins made a motion
for all divisions except the 9 & 10 year olds to be a 6/6 split on
how they are put on the teams. The
motion was seconded by Gary Cobbler; motion approved.
Bob will be meeting soon
with the other district presidents to finalize plans for the extended
play season. There will
be four tournament weekends this year.
Player surveys will be sent out to be sure every player knows
they have the option of participating in the extended play league.
The cost for players who did not participate in the spring
season will be $45.00. The
parents will need to pay for another shirt and hat if necessary.
Fall Ball applications and
money will be collected by Cindy Clark and Chuck Haslebacher.
The applications need to be turned in by June 15th.
The end of season tournament
will be double elimination for baseball and softball, there will not
be a tournament for Tee Ball.
Bob Swab, Jonathan Head and
Doug Massey will be on the Scholarship Committee this year.
Eligible candidates are those who have participated in the
Senior league division and up for three years.
The scholarship fund awards $1,000.00 each to a male and female
student.
Bob gave an update on his
negotiations with the Town of Kernersville concerning the Sahabi land
the league owns. Items
being considered include: 25
year term with renewal options, town would prepare 3 fields, one
senior and two regular, bathroom facility,
and the league would have first rights to the fields for games
and practices.
Jonathan Head of the
Equipment Committee gave a report on improvements that have been made
this season. The fencing
along the Tee Ball fields has been repaired, new foul poles have been
installed, and new rakes will be purchased after the committee
receives their budget.
Sherry Smagner gave an
overview of the pizza fundraiser.
The Southern Exposure Tee Ball team had 100% participation and
also sold the most pizzas. They
will receive a pizza party for their efforts.
Players who sold 11 or more kits will have their names placed
in the drawing for a cash prize of $4,000.00.
Bob closed the meeting by
asking everyone to begin thinking about the possibility of the Senior
League being split into a Junior 13 & 14 year old division and a
Senior League 15 & 16 year old division for next season.
The 14 year olds
would be a swing age and could go up with the 15 & 16 year olds or
stay down in the Junior division.
The meeting was adjourned at
10:35 PM.
