Board Meeting Minutes
April 1, 2002

Bob Swab, President of Kernersville Little League, called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM.  There were fifteen regular members in attendance.

The minutes of the March 5th meeting were read by Gale Starbuck.  A motion was made by Sondra Southard to approve the minutes as read.  The motion was seconded by Gary Cobbler; motion carried.

The Treasurer’s report was given by Doug Massey; currently the league has $61,525.00 in the bank account, of this amount $14,621.00 is designated to the parking lot fund.  The Kernersville Foundation recently contributed $500.00 to the league.

Perisa Harrison addressed the board concerning this year’s decision on the photographer.  Her concerns were the following:

- at the March 5, 2002 meeting a motion was made by Pat McNamara (which was approved) to allow the Team Mom’s to have the authority to choose this year’s photographer

- at the Team Mom meeting there were no options presented for them to vote on

- the photographer had already been lined up; thus negating the opportunity for a vote

After discussion, no board action was taken.

Chuck Haslebacher brought the following Major and Minor baseball items before the board:

Major baseball:  [One player] resigned from Vestal (majors) and is being replaced by [a player] from Holiday Inn Express (minors)

Lions Club (majors) opening being filled by [a] (new sign up)

[A player] resigned from TRS (majors) opening not filled

Holiday Inn Express (minors) lost two players; pulled up one player from coach pitch and replaced one with a late sign up - [ ].

A motion was made by Cindy Clark to approve the above mentioned items.  The motion was seconded by Jonathan Head; motion carried.

A motion was made by Gale Starbuck to approve the following persons as managers and coaches in the Minor League Baseball  program:

Barger Chiropractic    Kevin Wiley, manager

Holiday Inn Express  - Ed Nichols, manager
                       Dennis Idol, coach
Kiwanis                Phil Adams, manager
                       Kevin Griffin, coach

The motion was seconded by Pat McNamara; motion carried.

 Mike Robins made a motion to name the following  persons as coaches in the Major League Baseball program:

Civitan - David Atkins
VFW      - Herbie Swaim
TRS      - Mike Smith

The motion was seconded by Gary Cobbler; motion carried.

A motion was made by Gary Idol to name the following persons as coaches in the Senior League Baseball program:

Lines Ultd.        - Steve Page
Captain Tom’s      - Jeff Martin
Swaim’s            - Chuck Butler
J & R Construction - Jimmy Sewell
UBS Paine Webber   - Robert Weaver
Whicker Motors     - Pat McNamara

The motion was seconded by Cindy Clark; motion approved.

In other business:

Pat McNamara is following up with the insurance companies on repairing the fencing along County Line Road which was recently damaged from a car accident.

Cindy Clark went on record that the board did not vote on the team’s hats this year.  The presentations given by the equipment committee originally indicated flex fit hats were being considered.

Bob Swab reported on the following items: 

-he has been talking to a real estate agent about the Sahabi fields and discussing proposals with the Town of Kernersville.

- reviewed some of the events for Opening Day which will be on Saturday, April 13th at 9:00 AM.  A trumpet player will play the National Anthem and we will have a special guest to throw out the first pitch.

-named Rick Cremen as temporary replacement for Tommy Harrison as Vice President of Minor League Baseball

-Kevin Bixby will give a presentation of the Local Playing Rules on Thursday evening.

 The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 PM.
