The meeting was
called to order at 7:40 PM by Sonny Berry, President of Kernersville Little League. There
were 28 regular members in attendance.
The minutes from the January 1999 meeting were read by Gale Starbuck.
The Treasurers report was given by Bob Swab. The league has a
checking account balance of $33,616.00 at this time.
Missy Wilson gave an overview of the girls Minor League softball program she is
trying to implement this spring. She has had favorable responses from the parents she has
contacted and estimates that as many as 3 teams could be fielded this year. George Groce
has given her tentative approval to proceed with the program. A motion was made by Tommy
Wilson for the Kernersville Little League to establish a Minor League Softball program for
7, 8, and 9 year old girls. The motion was seconded by Tami Mankins; motion carried. A
committee to oversee the implementation of the program was formed; committee members are
Tommy Wilson, Tami Mankins, and Doug and Missy Wilson.
The local playing rules for the 1999 season were approved and the rules of conduct will
remain the same as last seasons.
Sonny has had the pad poured for the new building and Keith Manuel from Varco Pruden
will be sending a crew over soon to erect the new building.
The coaches certification meeting will be held on February 21st at the North Carolina
Baseball Academy from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
The high school softball tournament will be held at the Swaim Complex on March 29th
thru the 31st. Volunteers for the concession stand need to sign up with Tami Mankins.
Sonny said the district umpire training class will be held soon; possibly the end of
February. The class will be held at the Kernersville Library. He also said the proposal
for interleague play for fall ball was well received and will be discussed again at the
district meeting on March 7.
Sonny made a motion to buy a gandy spreader to spread sand on the ball fields. The
spreader will cost approxiamately $2,600.00. The motion was seconded by Ginger Howland;
motion approved.
Tami Mankins has scheduled Tim Montgomery to make the team pictures on April 24th and
May 1st. Tami will also be ordering raffle tickets for this seasons fundraiser.
Possible incentives this year will be: $20 to each child who sells 100 tickets and prizes
for teams that sell 1,000 tickets.
Benny Mabe made a motion for Larry Gentry to manage Aqua Shield in the Big League
Softball program. The motion was seconded by Bob Swab; motion carried.

Ken Boyan had a total of 142 children registered for Tee ball, coach pitch, minors and
majors at the January sign ups.
