The meeting was
called to order at 7:35 PM by Sonny Berry, President of Kernersville Little League. There
were three regular members in attendance.
The minutes from the December board meeting were read by Gale Starbuck. The minutes
were corrected to read " Bob Swabs amended budget for 1999 was approved."
The Treasurers report was given by Bob Swab. The League has
received $3,195.00 in memorials for Matt Swaim.
Sonny presented the following updates to the board:
- Duke Power turned down the Leagues request to put up a banner promoting Little
League sign-ups.
- the concrete pad for the new building will be poured when the ground dries up.
- the Swaim family wants the name of our complex to remain the same.
- a draft of the newsletter which will be mailed to league members prior to sign-ups.
Sonny also announced the resignation of Mike Royce from the board of directors, and
recommended Sam Bradley to fill the position of Player Agent for Senior Baseball. Tommy
Wilson made a motion to accept the recommendation, motion seconded by Benny Mabe; motion
carried 8 to 4.
The coaches certification for the 1999 season will be held at the North Carolina
Baseball Academy on Sunday, February 21 at 5:00 PM, this will be for the entire district.
The academy is located on Pleasant Ridge Road.
There were no reports ready from the "local rules committee" or the
"rules of conduct committee".
Tami Mankins obtained the following prices for renting signs to promote spring
sign-ups:
- Parks Chevrolet - $20 a day
- Youngs Florist - $5-10 a day
- 4 Brothers Amoco - Free
Scott Wilkinson has contacted six of the minor league managers from last year and four
of those will not be returning. He also recommended the league try to do a "50-50
split the pot" in the spring if we have enough people working in the concession
stand.
Frankie Dull made a motion to accept the following as managers in
the Senior League Division:
Lowes - Tony Alford
Lines Unlimited - Ed Sult
Farmers - Randy Weavil
Swaim - Tony Lane
Exchange Club - Mike Gregg
A&J Express - Andy Harper
Outwest - Doug Korneay
The motion was seconded by Scott Wilkinson, motion carried.
Benny Mabe named Larry Brinsfield to replace Gary Livengood in the Big
League Softball program.
Ginger Howland gave the following update on the Kernersville Little League
shirts she is having made for the league:
- the hats did not print very well and the logo is too pink, she will be
returning the hats
- the price for the screened white T-shirt is $5.75
- hat prices are $35/dozen; however the league may want to have them embroidered rather
than silk screened.
The board gave Ginger approval to go ahead and order several dozen red
T-shirts, blue T-shirts, sweat shirts and baseball jerseys. These items should be here in
time to sell at sign ups later this month.
In concluding the meeting Sonny said he would call board members next week
to get together and work on folding and stamping the newsletters. The meeting was
adjourned at 9:00 PM.
